Every individual responsible for he care of children should be prepared for any natural or man-made disasters. This Quick Guide gives caregivers, educators and program staff access to preparation tips and responses to disaster situations - all with the goal to remain calm and take appropriate action to keep children and adults safe. 

Every early childhood and school-age care program should have a written disaster preparedness plan. This Quick Guide is meant to supplement, not replace, that written plan. Information is provided to help adults identify disaster situations that may occur; describe appropriate responses to specific situations, including evacuation, take shelter and lockdown; and list actions to prepare for emergencies.
